LEED Information

LEED Credit MR2.1 & MR2.2  Construction Waste Management

Solid, Pattern and Multiwall polycarbonate/PETG plastic panels used
to manufacture the Pretense canopy system are completely recyclable.
The resin canopy can be reground and remanufactured into countless
types of consumer products, thus not increasing materials sent to a landfill.
Our packaging is designed to be entirely recyclable, making it easy to
divert construction waste from landfills.

LEED Credit MR4.1  Recycled Content

Increase demand for building products that incorporate recycled content
materials, thereby reducing impacts resulting from extraction and processing
of virgin materials. Our Solid, Pattern and Multiwall polycarbonate/PETG
panels used to manufacture the Pretense canopy system are made with
40% pre-consumer recycled content.

LEED Credit MR5.1 & MR5.2  Regional Materials

Norton Industries, Inc. products are manufactured in Cleveland, Ohio 44107.
"Manufactured" is defined as the final assembly of components into the
product that is furnished and installed. This does not include on-site
assembly, erection or installation of finished components.

Fire Properties

Polycarbonate is tested according to NFPA 286 and are equivalent to
Class A interior finish as defined in Chapter 8 of the International Building
Code and is considered self-extinguishing.

Note to Installer: Care must be taken when installing canopies so that
they do not cover or alter zone of fire suppression system or smoke
detection devices. Refer to NFPA, local authorities and project specific
engineered documents for possible restrictions and important installation
information.

Seismic Information

Although Norton Industries has not performed specific seismic testing
on our canopies, research shows:

The International Building Code requires the attachment of free floating
architectural components to be sized for three times the design load.
Norton Canopies weigh less than 100 pounds total. A 3/32 galvanized
aircraft cable is used with a maximum weight of 104 pounds each. There
are a minimum of four cables (six recommended) on each canopy.
The break point for each cable is 520 pounds.

The International Building Code allows architectural components to swing
freely as long as they will not be damaged or cause damage. Pendulum
reaction information is based on length of aircraft cable used. Restraint
of canopies is not recommended.

Handling & Care

Pre-Installation Storage

The best storage method is in the closed shipping container. If this is not
practical, use the following guidelines:

  • Store in a dry, dark, and well ventilated area, with no exposure
to sunlight, as this will cause the protective polyethylene film
to bake onto the sheet, and it will not be removable.
  • Cover the canopies with something that will protect them from
    scratches and falling objects.
  • The canopies should be stored indoors.
  • Do not store canopies under flexible PVC.

Project Conditions

  • Building areas to receive canopies shall be free of construction
    dust and debris.
  • Products can be installed up to 100-AF, down to 50-AF, and not in
spaces before the building is enclosed and where HVAC systems
    are not operating.
  • Canopy systems cannot be used in exterior applications, where
standing water is present, or where moisture will come in direct
    contact with the canopy.
  • Direct sunlight exposure is not acceptable.

Cleaning

  • Use mild liquid dish soap and warm water to clean your canopies.
If any dirt remains, gently wipe off with a soft clean cloth.
  • After final rinse, dry with a soft cloth to prevent water spotting.
  • Do not use sponges, squeegees, brushes or sharp instruments,
as they may damage the UV protective coating.

Warranty

Norton Industries guarantees to the purchaser, for one year, that all units
shall be free from defects in material and workmanship. Should any defects
occur within that time under conditions of normal use, Norton Industries will
repair or replace, without charge, those items found to be defective. Under no
circumstances will Norton Industries be liable for any labor or consequential
damages attributable to defective material or workmanship.

We reserve the right to determine the best method of correcting the warranty
